Rishikesh is a tehsil in the Dehradun district of Uttrakhand. It is also known as the “Yoga Capital of the World“. The distance of Rishikesh from New Delhi is around 250 kilometers while the distance from Dehradun is around 20 kilometers. The place is sacred for Hindus since the Hindu saints are visiting there from ancient times to meditate. Because of the sacredness of the city, you will not get Alcohol and Non-Veg there.
Rishikesh is named after one of Lord Vishnu’s name Hrishikesh. The city is hosting the International Yoga Festival every year in the first week of March since 1989.
The city gained instant fame when the English Band “Beatles” took part in the Transcendental Meditation (TM) training course at the Asharam of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi in the year 1968. The program received widespread international media attention.
Apart from just spirituality and Yoga, Rishikesh is also famous for Camping, River Rafting, Trekking, and many other activities. Thousands of foreign tourists visit the place every year to understand the concept of Moksha. With the increase in the number of tourists, there has been a surge in local Cafes and Restaurants.
Back in the year 2015, six of us friends decided to do Riverside Camping and Rafting. You can easily find the Tour Operators for these activities in almost every shop across the city. We paid INR 1300 per head which includes Riverside Camping inside their tents from today morning to the next morning including Breakfast, Lunch, Evening Snacks and Dinner + Rafting.
